Classes, Lectures, and Workshops Promises,
promises! Finally, Jack and friends will
be offering classes in the art of ceramics,
at San Antonio Pottery.
Hand building, figurative sculpture, beginning wheel throwing and intermediate
wheel throwing will be offered as individual classes. The cost of each class
will be $195 per 6 week course, this will include 2.5 hours of instruction
per week, 25 lbs of clay , subsequent glazes and kiln firings appropriate for
that amount of clay, additional clay and firing space will be available for
purchase, if desired. Students are also given the opportunity of 2 hours of
non-instructional studio use per week. |

Beginning wheel throwing & handbuilding: Tuesdays,
6:30 - 9:00 p.m. This class will be mostly taught
by Peggy ( aka Maggie) Clark. With some initial demonstrations
by Jack Boyle. Emphasis for this class will be mastering
the centering process and creating basic forms: bowls
and cylinders with some degree of consistency. No
previous experience necessary. Handbuilding techniques
will also be demonstrated.
Wheel throwing & Hand building: Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon with
Peggy . This will be a fun class learning all about making pottery with slabs,
coils and whatever else is hanging around the pottery shop. These techniques
guarantee success with your first efforts. Pottery made in this class can be
functional, sculptural or decorative! Open to Beginning students as well as
those with more expertise. Beginning wheel throwing will also be demonstrated
and encouraged.
Beginning wheel throwing: Thursday, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m., will focus on
beginning to intermediate forms and functional vessels. Some clay experience
helpful , but not required. Specific techniques such as goblets, teapots, lidded
forms, etc. will be demonstrated by Jack.
| Jack Boyle -
"the potter" received B.A. of Fine Arts
from the University of South Florida with a concentrations
in ceramic. He has over 30 years of experience
as a studio potter, specializing in wheel thrown
decorative and functional stoneware pottery. He
has been the owner of the San Antonio pottery
since 1977. Jack currently participates in juried
festivals, and has received numerous awards for
his work. |

Peggy "Maggie" Clark -"the
potter's right hand", received a B. A. in Fine
Arts from the University of South Florida with a concentration
in ceramics. She has worked in ceramic arts - functional
and decorative hand building, as well as wheel throwing
for over 30 years. Peggy currently works as assistant
to Jack at the pottery studio.
Bill Boots- received a B.A in
Fine Arts from Berea College in Kentucky, and a Masters
in Art Education from Eastern Tenn. University. Bill
has taught various levels and types of art for over
30 years. He has been an art educators in Pasco County
since 1981 and currently teaches at Zephyrhills High
School where he developed and implemented the 3-D
and ceramics program.
Joe Alexander - Received
his A.A. from Pensacola Jr. College and his B.A.,
concentrating in Ceramics, 1974, from the University
of West Florida.
There will be a 6 pupil minimum for each
class .
Wheel classes max out at 6 pupils , hand
building and sculpture at 8 pupils.
Management ( that's Jack) reserves the right to combine
classes to meet minimum requirement and will phone
prospective students to make rearrangements.
A deposit of $95 is expected to reserve
your class space , this will be returned if class
minimum is not met or a satisfactory class time is
not negotiated. The remaining balance of $100 is expected
on the day of first class. Each student must also
sign a release of liability form before class will
begin. Student cancellation within 1 month of class
date will result in forfeiture of deposit.
Be aware that there are some possible
dangers in any art class/studio situation. Sharp tools,
uneven flooring etc. are part of this studio. Anyone
with asthma or any respiratory illness is not advised
to occupy this environment. There are no toxic chemicals
in use in this studio, but minute airborne particles
are present.
